祈求世界和平法會在佛光山紐約道場舉行，由住持如揚法師主持，大紐約地區除各宗教領袖代表出席，紐約州參議員史塔維斯基（Toby Stavisky）、眾議員金兌錫（Ron Kim）、市議員顧雅明及聯合國非政府組織宗教事務副主席等參與，展現宗教融合，並展望未來世界和平。
回教領袖等人致詞時提及911恐怖攻擊記憶猶新，現今全球依舊天災人禍不斷、籠罩恐怖主義陰影下，唯有各族裔攜手共濟，以愛取代仇恨、暴力，世界和平才能真正到來。
儀式中同時宣讀星雲法師的和平祝禱文，法會是實踐其提倡人間佛教的「五和」理念，也就是從自心和悅做起、再把家庭和順、人我和敬、社會和諧關係做好，最終目標建造世界和平理想願景。
法會除了誦經祈福及點燈祝禱，還有童軍弦樂演奏、佛光青年團手語帶動唱、舞蹈表演等，各界人士近300人出席。1050912
